All NVL Voting Is In!
All NVL voting took place and the results are in. No surprises, pretty predictable. Roberts, Osiecki, Gondek..... Couple of surprises though, Woodland got shunned yet Naugy gets two, WOW. Event Holy Cross got some. I will hold off with the full roster until tomorrow morning out of respect for the coaches. They should be the ones to tell their players. Good luck to Seymour and Ansonia. I hope you guys bring home the Gold!
P.S. Who voted for Wolcott? It was either a mistake or Coach Russo stopped by.

Thanksgiving Football!
Seymour v Woodland - This is one of the better rivarly games on Turkey Day. These two teams have found a strong dislike for eachother in a short time. Seymour should come out on top, if they don't take them to lightly.
SH v Wilby - The hearts finish winless in 08.
HC v Wolcott - I like this as my upset special. Wolcott should win easily, but I like HC playing at home.
Watertown v Torrington - The Raiders win this one, sending the message for next year.
Crosby v Kennedy - Believe it or not I think Kennedy gives them a hell of a game. I'll take Crosby in a squeaker.
Ansonia v Naugy - Plasky coaches his but off in this one, doing everything he knows how, and only losing by 40.
Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Does Kennedy Stand A Chance?
I would have to say this match up is proof there should be no league title game. Ansonia already beat this team head to head, quite handily. How many of you will actually go to this game to watch Ansonia claim another title in the first half. I understand that the game represents the best of the Brass against the best of the Copper. However, is Kennedy really the best? Seriously, if you tell me that this game has any merit at this point, I would disagree with you heavily. Let's hear your predictions on the game and if anyone is up for it, please make an argument on why this game should be played.

Big Win For Ansonia. Who will they play next Thursday?
Ansonia dismisses the Cats and look to remain the NVL Champs. I am one who thought Seymour would prevail in this one, but once again I got it wrong. I wasn't there, had work commitments, but I want to hear from you guys about the game. Two questions; 1. Did the better team win? 2. Now that they played each other, do you take Roberts or Osiecki?
Woodland @ Kennedy tonight! I see the Hawks taking this one and facing the unfortunate opportunity of playing Ansonia again. ATTENTION AD's: Ansonia already beat them head to head. Get rid of this stupid game!!!

WEEK #10 and I'm not holding back.
Right now Seymour sits on top of the league as the team to beat. No one has been able to do it yet, including the great Crosby Bulldogs. Ansonia must still be wondering what he heck happened. As good as Crosby is, very few of us really that they would win that game. But, because they did, I think this week is even more interesting than it would have been.
Seymour @ Ansonia - You have to think it is improbable for Ansonia to lose two in a row. They are not the type of program to go in the tank after an embarrassing loss, so I see them looking to come out and make a statement against the only 9-0 team in the league. Seymour will be looking very hard at the film from last week and investigating exactly how Crosby held them to only 14 points. This is Spoony's final dance and nothing would give him more joy than to beat Ansonia before the music stops. I like Seymour in this game. Not because Ansonia lost last week, but because I believe Seymour is the best team in the league in 2008. It will be close, but not tight. Seymour 35 Ansonia 21.
HC @ Naugy - The Crusaders should win this game. Not because they are playing well or anything like that, but because of the Plasky factor. Rumor has it this guy is telling people he wants to coach college football, COULD YOU IMAGINE. Cross by 20.
Watertown @ Wolcott - Watertown takes this one, want to know why? Wolcott posted on their website that this is their first seven win season since the 80's. That is the type of thing that lesser programs settle for and brag about. Look for the Eagles to lose their last two, miss the playoffs and have a 7 win moral victory parade. Indians 40 Eagles 28
Woodland @ Kennedy - Wow, championship at stake. Let me repeat, championship at stake. Who'd a guessed these two teams would playing for a shot at the NVL Title. Because I am not a big fan of the NVL Title Game, I'm going with Woodland on this one, so that the WRHS vs. SHS Thanksgiving Eve game doubles as the championship. Woodland 28 Kennedy 20.
Wilby @ Crosby - Unless Crosby's starting offense oversleeps, I'll take the Bulldogs 49 - 12.
Torrington @ S.H. - The Red Raiders should win this game and SH has to win at least one, right? Well I don't think THS will hold on in this one. The Hearts will come up with a win, finally. SH 20 THS 19.
Now let me know how way off base I am, please.

Hats Off To Crosby!!
I was wrong!! I will not hide. I will give credit where credit is due. In this case, a lot of credit. Crosby, for the first time ever, has shown they can play in a big game. I wasn't there and I don't know what factors may have contributed to this outcome, but I don't care, Crosby won and good for them. This does beg the question, how on earth does Wolcott beat Crosby or Woodland put like 300 yards and 28 points of offense on them and Ansonia only puts up 14 points? Crosby's D-Coordinator should be promoted to the Head Coach of the New York Giants. Congrats to Crosby.
I had the pleasure of taking in the Woodland @ Naugy game. Woodland absolutely dominated in this game, IMHO. Naugy should have hired Coach Shea when they had the chance. Plasky shouldn't be coaching tee ball. Worst play calling I have ever seen, including pop-warner.
Let's here about the other games you guys saw.

Back In Action For Week 9
Sorry about the absence fellas. I had major PC problems last week and had to purchase a new machine. It won't happen again. Now on to Week 9.
Wolcott @ Wilby - Eagles win this one and keep the playoff hopes alive. 40-0.
Ansonia @ Crosby - Ansonia wins this game 10 out of 10 times. Ansonia Football was built on these types of games and they know how to bury a team that lacks the substance to survive a big game. 62-28.
Seymour @ Watertown - No way these Indians are pullin this one off. Come on Week 10. 48-20.
SH @ HC - Upset special. Hearts win, yes I said win. 20-14.
Woodland @ Naugy - I'm calling this the game of the week. At least this game has division championship implications, no matter how sad that sounds. I'm givin Woodland the win because Naugy still has Plasky. 28-0.
Torrington @ Kennedy - That Woodland loss is really haunting the Raiders now. If they pulled that one off, Dunaj would be playing for a banner in his rookie season. Raiders Win. 35-13.

Week 7 Final Thoughts
Let me be the first to say Congrats to Wolcott and their "anonymous" friend. Great Job. Having said that, if the two teams were playing again tomorrow, I would pick the same way. Ansonia wins big and shuts me up again. I took a shot on that one, what do you wnat me to say! HC - Woodland was down right ugly. HC did nothing after their first drive except perfect their punting game. Woodland dominated them most of the game, but shot themselves in the foot over and over again inside the 20. HC made it happen in OT and won the game fair and square. I don't have too much info on the other games, please fill me in.

Week 7 Picks
Ansonia @ Watertown
I'm calling this one as the upset of the week. Not because I think Watertown is a better team, but because Watertown has done it before to Ansonia. Kris1, I'm sure you will let me know how foolish I am on Saturday. Watertown 35 Ansonia 28.
Crosby @ Wolcott
Crosby by 30. Nuff Said.
H.C. @ Woodland
The Hawks are going to pound the private school princess'. HC is bad and Woodland gets better. WRHS 35 HC 7
S. H. @ Kennedy (sat)
0-0 Tie
Torrington @ Naugatuck
Naugatuck has no business losing this game, but with Plasky at the helm anything is possible.
THS 28 Naugy 6.
Wilby @ Seymour
SEYMOUR!!!!!
P.S. Fainer opened his blog back up. Does it remind you of anything? He made it just like this blog. What a clown.

Week 6 In Review
Watertown smoked Sacred Heart. You have to wonder what's going on with the Hearts. They have very good talent, a coach with an impressive resume and yet they can't win a game. Someone please tell me what is going on over there.
Ansonia did what they do.....win big. Can Crosby de-thrown Ansonia or will Seymour be left to do it in Week 10? From what I understand, Holy Cross should be a hospital not a High School. Rumors have them plagued with injuries including Ewald and Cronin. I hope those two young men are OK, but let's be honest, HC stinks with or without injuries.
Crosby rolled by Naugy with ease. Naugy is BAD. It almost appears that they draw each play and formation in the dirt two seconds before they run it. What is Plasky doing? Crosby looked decent, but I have to say that they are not as good as the hype. They make alot of mistakes and do not seem like they understand the philosophy of a spread offense. They are very vulnerable on defense as well. This team will win games given the state of affairs in the NVL this year, but if you place them in the league 3 or 4 years ago playing against the better Ansonia, Woodland, Seymour and Holy Cross teams, they would be 6-4.
Seymour thumped Kennedy, what did you expect. I mean, this Osiecki kid is running, catching and throwing TD's. I never like to pick against Ansonia, but I think this might be the year Seymour thumps them. We'll see, that's for sure.
Finally, the last game of the week that took place Saturday afternoon. Woodland beat Wilby 21-6 in game that I heard was very slow going. Rumor also has it that Woodland's starting QB is out with a broken collarbone. Don't know how true, but that's what I heard. If so, this should make it pretty interesting next week when the Hawks take on the Crusaders.
I'm sure some of you disagree with some of the things I've said here. Let me have it, that's why we blog!

NFRT Game of the Week
Wolcott @ Torrington is going to be the best match up we see this week. Two very evenly paired teams in my book. Wolcott has shown improvement but has not come close to playing with the big boys. Torrington is better than their record shows and they play teams hard. Stay tuned for my Week #6 picks. I'm looking forward to hearing from you guys too.

The strong survive in Week 5
Most of us called it and Seymour made it happen. Let's face it, Crosby had little chance of winning this game and with the loss, critics can still say "What have they done?" Anyone that picked Seymour to win based their decision on defense and rightfully so. Seymour's defense held Crosby to 34 rushing yards and allowed Gondek to complete only 40% of his passes and picked him once. Not to mention, Crosby only had 177 yards passing, way less than they have been averaging. Seymour is a good team and Crosby just isn't ready for big time games. With a most likely loss to Ansonia, I think it is safe to say that Crosby is no longer in contention for the NVL. They are still sitting at #5 in the L point standings, but......?
HOLY COW! I mean Holy Cross. I think I'm going to set up a poll to see how many people were actually surprised by this. I know I wasn't
Another team that is proving it is not ready to take on the big boys is Wolcott. Improved yes, ready no.
Torrington and Woodland sounds like it was a great a game. The paper says that Woodland scored with less than 5 minutes left to take the lead. Woodland is showing signs of life and Torrington is sending the "Watch Out" message for the next few seasons.
I would like to hear from you guys about these games and the others. Let's have it.

NFRT "Game of the Week" Seymour vs. Crosby
Seymour vs. Crosby is, in my opinion, is the biggest game of the regular season for the NVL so far. These two teams are each, without argument, a possible NVL Champion. Seymour, Ansonia and Crosby are all in the Brass Division. This means that they only get one shot at each other with no second chance in the NVL Title Game. The winner of this game will be playing Ansonia for the title in the regular season. Let's be honest, who from the Copper will beat either team in the "actual" title game?

Why they are the "Top 3"
The reason I put Ansonia at #1, in my opinion, is obvious. They started the season with two consecutive state championships and have not lost a game since Woodland beat them in 2005. Although they are clearly not as dominating as the past two years, they've shown no reason why they aren't the #1 team in the NVL. I do think they are beatable and I am predicting at least 1 loss for them this season, Seymour or Crosby. My gut tells me that Crosby will probably be the team to do it, but I also think that coaching matters and Seymour definitely trumps Crosby in that aspect. They will remain #1 for now.
Seymour is #2 because, like Ansonia, they are coming off a championship season and remain undefeated this year. Seymour is always strong and let's face it, Spoony and Kelo get it done. Until they lose I like them as #2.
Crosby, Crosby, Crosby. I don't know what to think. I've heard the hype before and have never witnessed them prove anything. However, they are undefeated and they seem to be handling teams well. The HC game was close because of the conditions, but if it were a dry night they might have hung 50 on them. Until they beat a "top tier" team I will leave them at #3.

Welcome Football Fans!!!
Welcome to the blog that lets you talk football all you want, all the time. No more old man suffering from dementia telling you about his day at the senior center. No more one sided opinions about bad teams. I could care less if your school is private or public. I just want to talk football without having to cut through the envious fat first. Tell your friends "It's time to talk football."
OK, nuff said about that. Week 4, in my opinion, brought us no surprises. I would like to start with the Watertown - Holy Cross game. Watertown handed Holy Cross their third loss of the season with a score of 28-6. I wasn't at the game, but I heard from others that Watertown handled HC pretty easily in all facets of the game. I think it is fair to say that the "fortunate" years of Mulrooney are gone and like before them, won't be back for a long time. Let's be honest, HC has never been a perennial power and never will be. Watertow, while always a sound team at best, is certainly enjoying a year of average teams in the NVL.
Ansonia started a little slow last night against Woodland, who scored first in this one, but eventually pulled away and did not allow Woodland another score. Ansonia is a good team, but they are not remotely reminiscent of the past two seasons. This team can be beat and with teams like Seymour and Crosby performing the way they are, Ansonia might be de-throwned this year. Woodland is still having trouble getting their offense going. They scored pretty easily in the first quarter and never really got anything else going. What is in the future for the Hawks?
Another game I found amusement in is the Seymour - Naugy game. Can someone please tell me why Plasky is still the coach. This is an L school losing teams with half the athlete pool and finding their only win against Kennedy IN OVERTIME. Seymour was supposed to be down after last year, but it looks to me like Oscieki is putting this team on his back and making a real run for it.
Crosby pounded Sacred Heart. I don't mean this as a dig, but I need some of you Crosby guys to let me know if this team is for real or if the record is only indicative of the teams they've played thus far. Sacred Heart is awful.

The last game I'm going to comment on is Wolcott - Kennedy. I really believe that Wolcott's record of 3-1 is not any major accomplishment yet. The only team they've played is Seymour and the Wildcats showed the Eagles that They are not ready for big games.
I will leave the rest of the games open for your comments as well as what I have already jotted down here. I hope to see you all posting here soon. GO NVL!!
