Most of us called it and Seymour made it happen. Let's face it, Crosby had little chance of winning this game and with the loss, critics can still say "What have they done?" Anyone that picked Seymour to win based their decision on defense and rightfully so. Seymour's defense held Crosby to 34 rushing yards and allowed Gondek to complete only 40% of his passes and picked him once. Not to mention, Crosby only had 177 yards passing, way less than they have been averaging. Seymour is a good team and Crosby just isn't ready for big time games. With a most likely loss to Ansonia, I think it is safe to say that Crosby is no longer in contention for the NVL. They are still sitting at #5 in the L point standings, but......?
HOLY COW! I mean Holy Cross. I think I'm going to set up a poll to see how many people were actually surprised by this. I know I wasn't
Another team that is proving it is not ready to take on the big boys is Wolcott. Improved yes, ready no.
Torrington and Woodland sounds like it was a great a game. The paper says that Woodland scored with less than 5 minutes left to take the lead. Woodland is showing signs of life and Torrington is sending the "Watch Out" message for the next few seasons.
I would like to hear from you guys about these games and the others. Let's have it.

kind of figured that seymour would win this game. just thought seymour has been in this situation many times. crosby will continue to win though.
ansonia did what ansonia does...win.
holy cross is not good.
woodland..hum...big win.
An outstanding COACHING move made by the Seymour brainstrust to start the 2nd half. Put the game on the shoulders of big 47.
I was surprised Crosby did not adjust to the pass rush and move Gondek out of the pocket. Bulldogs were hurt by the loss of Dion Small. And let's remember something, the game was 19-16 Crosby at the end of three.
The 4th period is where the game was decided, with the 'Cats hangin' 20 up on the board. And realistically the last score was an "oh by the way" TD.
Seymour is very, very well coached and their players follow the plan and stay with the plan. VERY immpressive.
As for Crosby, its pretty hard on a QB with 7 of your passes are dropped and you have a TD called back on a holding. And that INT in the 4th, the game closer, was a ball off the hands of Dunbar, anothe ball that should have been caught.
Seymour executed, Crosby did not.
Ansonia - Seymour..........wow.....I've already started working on getting THAT game on the air.
Great thought by you guys here!! Keep up the super job!!
The biggest dissapointment I saw with Crosby was their lack of discipline. Martinez is doing a great job with them but there is no way you win games against good teams with stupid penalties like they had. Hopefully they use it as a learning experience and build on it. Some of those athletes they have are just downright scary.
Do you guys believe that all those penalities were legit. I was there and some of the calls were bad. How about the intential grounding while he was out of the pocket getting hit as he threw the ball. What a joke. The offical i heard was bad mouthing a few crosby players on the field because they were complaining about getting their ankles grabbed under the pile. So instead of addressing the problem, Crobsy became the bad guys. Injuries played a role in the game and so did dropped passess. Crosby controlled 3 quaters of the game without their starting running back and their te/lb for the second half. As far as lack of discpline. When both teams work very hard and Seymour only gets 2 penalites all day could get frustrating. Its tuff enough when you have to battle seymour (6th in the state) but battling refs too is very difficult. Their were mental breakdowns but i do agree progress is bein made their. seymour is a great program and number 47 is a stud. it is what it is. Blame coaching or what every you want but I saw Crosby dominate for 3 quaters especially in the first half. They had no answer for #47 after 39 got injured. Two good teams and it was a great game. They young coaching staff gave sponie everything he could handle. The program is on the up swing, they just lost to a great team. End of story.
Stop the lying, I could not agree with you more. That officiating crew was the same crew that cost Seymour their game against Naugy at SHS 2 years ago, on what they called a fumble that was run back for a touchdown in the last few minutes of play. So I too was questioning some of their calls. I was very impressed by the Crosby QB as well as some of their other players. They are certainly headed in the right direction. They just had no answer for #47, he's just a beast. My hat is also off to the Seymour coaching staff for having the trust in OZ to give him the keys to the bus in the second half. AHS vs SHS is shaping up to be another doozy.
Stop the Lying,
It doesn't matter if the QB is out of the pocket in high school, it is stil intentional grounding. I heard that there should have been another intentional grounding on Crosby in the end zone for a safety that they didn't call.
I was at the Torrington vs. Woodland game and Woodland outplayed Torrington. Although if Torrington didn't try and pass the ball in the last 8 minutes of the game then they probably would have won.
As I said, Torrington should have won this game, but Woodland did outplay them. I think Woodland had 3 drives inside of Torrington's 15 yard line that they didn't convert and Torrington didn't put together too many drives as they scored on 2 long plays. But it was a great game, both teams are solid.
How that HC program has fallen....
As a whole the officiating in the NVL is usually awful and that crew in particular stinks but I have to say they didn't do a real bad job in this one. There were a couple of calls that were questionable but for the most part they did their job and let the game be decided by the players on the field.
holy cross should never been less than 6-4. for a school that can recruit and is in waterbury anything less is unacceptable.
STL......I just took a minute to re-read your post and have a few things to address.
Discipline leads to Seymour only getting called for 2 penalties. I don't know the exact numbers but if you take off the personal fouls, which are complete lack of discipline penalties, the other calls were pretty even. The intentional grounding calls were not even remotely questionable.
They are definately on the upswing and I would hope that they can win out and make the playoffs but they have to realize you don't win big games with 5 or 6 personal fouls in a game.
Week 6 games and picks...
Watertown at Sacred Heart (Thurs)-Circle the wagons, Coach Ewald. These Injuns are coming for scalps. The Watertown running game will be too much, and October is a big month for all things orange and black. Injuns-31 Hearts-22
Ansonia at Holy Cross-Things go from bad to worse for the Green & Gold. Chargers-52 Crusaders-12
Crosby at Naugatuck-DOG FIGHT! Crosby is pissed about the lost opportunities against Seymour. Plasky's pups get a full dose of the Bulldogs' wrath, it's a good thing the Naugy Doggies have their full roster (finally). Hope it makes a difference. This one may get out of hand. Bulldogs-38 Greyhounds-20
Kennedy at Seymour-Eagles single wing has given Cats fits the past few years. Halftime adjustments have been the key to the most recent games, as Seymour settled down and began to control the game. Seymour broke out some interesting formations of its own Friday, so who knows. DeBarber Field will have hosted 2 Boys and 5 Girls soccer games between 10/8 and game time on 10/17. Expect the playing surface to be torn up (its what happens when crab grass is accepted as real grass), to help keep a speedy Eagles team in check, as the Wildcats' continue chewing up turf in the ground game. Wildcats-43 Eagles-20
Wolcott at Torrington-Turns out to be a great matchup. Raiders have the skill players to make this interesting, and are coming off a heartbreaker versus Woodland. They're really buying into Coach Dunaj's philosophy up there in southern Massachusetts. They Eagles may still be brooding after a pounding by the Chargers. Expect this one to be physical. This could be the game of the week. If it turns out not to be, at least you got a nice view of the foliage on the ride up Route 8. Red Raiders-24 Eagles-21
Woodland at Wilby (Sat)-Regional School District 16 will be riding the wave from a big win up in Torrington. All Wilby has is the advantage of the worst home field in the league...hey, at least they haven't cleaned the one Port-o-Potty on the field in the last 6 years. Ever notice, the pressbox at Wilby is just a bus stop that's been raised up? This could get uglier than some of the girls at Mr. Happy's if Woodland builds on its momentum. Reg. 16 Hawks-25 Scaredy Cats-6
